SourceDay makes it easier for your receiving team to process shipments by automatically adding barcodes to shipping labels. With barcodes, receiving becomes faster, more accurate, and less dependent on manual data entry.
When enabled, SourceDay generates barcodes directly on packing slips. These barcodes represent key shipment details—such as purchase order (PO) numbers or shipment IDs—that your warehouse team can scan when shipments arrive.
Note: Barcodes are always enabled for shipping labels.
Barcodes can be created in several standard formats:
Code 39
Code 93
Code 128B
Your organization can also add a unique prefix to the barcode, making it easier to identify the type of data (for example, distinguishing POs from shipment IDs).
Tip: Most warehouse scanners already support the barcode formats SourceDay offers. Check with your IT or operations team if you’re unsure which format is right for you.
Why use barcodes
Without barcodes, receiving teams typically need to type in PO or shipment numbers by hand. This slows down the process and increases the risk of errors.
Barcodes streamline this workflow by allowing the receiving team to:
Scan instead of type → Faster receiving
Reduce errors → Automatic matching with SourceDay or your ERP
Standardize processes → Consistent identification of shipments
Customize workflows → Prefixes can help separate different data types
